Boris Johnson addressed the UK in a pre-recorded speech regarding the current coronavirus crisis and increase in cases across England. This speech comes after announcements that new measures are necessary to again stop the spread of the deadly virus. These include having a 10pm curfew for pubs and bars, increase use of face masks and reducing contact indoors.
The Prime Minister insisted that across the House of Commons and the devolved nations he had support for increasing the measures to protect against coronavirus.
Mr Johnson has also faced criticism for these measures with some claiming they are that of a dictator.
He addressed these complaints and insisted that the situation was serious and someone’s cough could result in the death of someone else.
Mr Johnson said: “I believe this broad approach is shared across the whole UK.

“To those that say we don’t need this stuff and we should leave people to take their own risks, I say these risks are not our own.
“The tragic reality of having COVID-19 is that your mild cough could be someone’s death knell.”
The Prime Minister also addressed the suggestions that instead of more restrictions and lockdowns, the Government should simply focus on protecting the most vulnerable in society.
“He said: “As for the suggestion that we should lock up the elderly and the vulnerable, with all the suffering that would entail I must tell you that it is just not realistic.
“We will have fines of up to £10,000 and we will put more police out on the streets.
“We will also use the army to backfill if necessary.”
Mr Johnson admitted that he was reluctant to make any of these choices, however, due to the nature of the crisis, he insisted they were necessary.
He added: “Unless we take action the risk is that we will have to go for tougher measure later.
“This will be when the deaths have already mounted and we have a huge caseload of infection, such as we had in the spring.”
