Concerns for rising coronavirus cases in the UK have mounted in recent weeks. On Monday, the UK’s Chief Scientific Officer warned cases could reach 50,000 per day based on the current predictions, unless further steps are taken to control the spread of the virus. The PM, Boris Johnson, is expected to address the nation about further lockdown restrictions this week.
The Government and the NHS are currently preparing for a potential second wave of coronavirus cases in the UK.
On Monday 4,368 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the UK – an increase from 3,899.
The figures reported made this Monday the highest Monday increase in cases since April.
The Joint Biosecurity Centre has now recommended the COVID-19 alert level for the UK be increased to Level 4, which means the transmission of the virus in the UK is now considered “high or rising exponentially”.

In addition to changes to opening hours, businesses within the hospitality sector are expected to be limited to table service only.
In light of the new changes, a spokesperson for No 10 said: “No-one underestimates the challenges the new measures will pose to many individuals and businesses.
“We know this won’t be easy, but we must take further action to control the resurgence in cases of the virus and protect the NHS.”
The Prime Minister is also expected to emphasise the importance of sticking to the basics such as regular hand washing.
The Government has recently launched its new slogan of ‘Hands, Face, Space’, to encourage people to wash their hands, wear a face covering and stick to social distancing.
Following meetings with Cabinet, experts and leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Tuesday, the extent of restrictions are expected to be announced tomorrow.
