Boris Johnson’s split from his wife Marine Wheeler has been announced today, after a period of separation for the couple.

Mr Johnson and Mrs Wheeler released a joint statement, confirming that divorce proceedings have officially begun.

Current favourite to replace Theresa May at number 10, Mr Johnson garnered controversy as he spearheaded the Leave campaign.

His resignation letter to Theresa May graced headlines as the politician stated the pan at the time would lead Britain into being a “colony”.

Does Boris Johnson have children?

Boris Johnson was married to wife Marine in 1993, which means the couple was together for more than 25 years.

Their marriage was marred by claims of cheating and the couple have now announced their divorce following further claims of infidelity.

Now they are separating, the couple have redefined their commitment to their children in a statement.

The statement reads: “Several months ago, after 25 years of marriage, we decided it was in our best interests to separate.

“We have subsequently agreed to divorce and that process is under way.

“As friends we will continue to support our four children in the years ahead. We will not be commenting further.”

Their four children are Lara Lettice Johnson aged 25, Milo Arthur Johnson, 23, Cassia Peaches Johnson, 21 and Theodore Apollo Johnson, aged 19.

Who is Marina Wheeler?

Boris Johnson’s soon to be former wife is a British lawyer and author, specialising in public law, including human rights.

The barrister was born in Berlin, and is of half-Indian Sikh descent.

She studied at Cambridge University and became a Queen’s Counsel in 2016, and married Mr Johnson in 1993 after meeting him in Brussels.

At the time, Mr Johnson was a reporter for the Daily Telegraph covering the European Parliament.

Boris Johnson was also married before he met Mrs Wheeler, having been in a relationship with Allegra Mostyn-Owen, a socialite.

Once a Tatler cover girl, the daughter of Italian writer Gaia Salvino met Johnson while at Oxford University.

They were married from 1987 up until 1993, the year Johnson married Marina Wheeler.

These days, Allegra has taken to running art workshops for younger Muslims based out of a London mosque.
