At the time of Prince Charles and Camilla’s marriage in 2005, Clarence House confirmed Camilla would be known as Princess Consort and not Queen Consort, as Diana would have been when Charles becomes king.

The decision was designed to be sensitive to Princess Diana’s memory while acknowledging the significant amount of public ill-feeling towards Camilla for her affair with Charles.

However, in the years following their royal wedding, Camilla has flourished in her royal role and gained popularity.

Camilla’s success as a working member of the Firm has prompted speculation as to whether she might take the title of Queen Consort after all.
