Boris Johnson spoke to the nation on Saturday evening to disclose the latest coronavirus restrictions and measure he and his Government are set to put in place. Early reports indicated Mr Johnson was being put under pressure to bring in restrictions that would drastically reduce the sharp increase in cases. Many MPs across the political spectrum have publicly condemned the idea of a second coronavirus lockdown and raised the concerns of businesses and people across the country.
During the briefing, Chief Scientific advisor Sir Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty explained the details of current data and predictions going forward.
Patrick Vallance showed a winter scenario graph that revealed a significantly higher death toll in England compared to the peak of the first wave.

Sir Patrick said: “The next graph shows the death rate in England for some of the groups over the winter period.

“This is early work scenarios looking at this on the assumption of R.
“As you can see, different groups come up with different answers depending on their models.
“What is clear from all of them, in terms of deaths over the winter, this has the potential to be twice as bad or more compared to the first wave.
