The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) has concluded the crucial R rate has dropped from 1 to 1.2 last Friday, between 1 and 1.1.
There is a lag of two weeks in determining the R rate, meaning this is the first time the measure has taken into account the lockdown in England.
