Boris Johnson has said a second national lockdown would be “disastrous” for the country, but the UK’s leading scientists have suggested a two-week national shutdown would help curb the spread of coronavirus. In response, Express.co.uk asked readers whether they would support such a move.
The poll, which was carried out from 10am to 7.30pm on September 28, asked: “Would you support a two week national lockdown?”
The majority of the 10,762 respondents did not back such move, with 57 percent (5,852 people) voting “no”.
Forty-two percent of readers (4,751 people) voted “yes”, while one percent (159 people) opted for “don’t know”.
Readers then took to the comments to explain why they thought another national lockdown was a bad idea.
One person wrote: “Lockdowns merely delay the inevitable.
“Set the whole country free and reopen the Nightingales if necessary.
“Use them as Isolation Hospitals for COVID patients.
“Every year we hear of the NHS being overwhelmed by flu patients and I doubt this year will be any different.”

“More people out and about = more infections.
“We’re going to have to learn to live with this bug just as we do with every other bug and not hide away under the blankets.”
Another person didn’t understand what the fresh lockdown would achieve, they asked: “Lockdown for two weeks and then what?”
One person suggested the Government should adopt Sweden’s approach, in favour of herd immunity.
They said: “I wouldn’t support a two hour lockdown, herd immunity is the only way to deal with this.”
It comes as the Government has placed even stricter lockdown restrictions on the North East of England today, as coronavirus infections continue to soar.
Mr Johnson is also understood to be considering placing London under fresh restrictions in the coming weeks, as cases start to surge in the capital.
