The Government has come under increasing pressure to make a U-turn on the relaxation of restrictions over Christmas.
When Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the Christmas period’s restrictions, the R rate was below 1 with infections reducing in the population.
Between December 23 and 27, three households are allowed the mix inside, with no restrictions on travel distance or social distancing.
But the Government has urged the public to use their common sense and avoid any unnecessary contact.
The festive bubble restrictions are absolute maximums; not targets, they added.
