Surge testing programmes used to detect Covid variants in the UK will soon expand beyond their current reach. Officials hope to track how the base Covid strain is mutating, with new pockets of infections opening up around the country. The local variant, first identified in Kent, has split off and moved north, while authorities are also keeping an eye on the Brazil and South African versions.
Where are the new Covid surge testing postcodes?
Surge testing will soon expand to three new sites in the UK.
The new postcodes added will bring the number of areas conducting surge tests to 15.
Each of these have sprung up in response to new case detections.
These include:
- Middlesborough: TS7
- Hampshire: RG26
- Walsall
