Sarah Ferguson may have been responsible for “encouraging” Diana, Princess of Wales, to “cause a bit of a scene” just before her marriage to Prince Andrew, according to experts. The Duchess of York was the first royal to have a traditional hen party in the Royal Family, to which her future sister-in-law was invited. The scandalous details were revealed in Sarah’s autobiography, which royal commentators discussed on Channel 5’s documentary: ‘Fergie Vs Diana: Royal Wives At War’.
Journalist Ayesha Hazarika said: “In the lead-up to the wedding, Fergie made it clear that fitting in with royal convention was not a priority.
“She immediately started to encourage Diana to follow suit.
“On the hen party, they had a lot of fun. They dressed up as policewomen.
“They caused a bit of a scene at the Palace.”

Lizzie Cundy, a friend of the Duchess of York, told the documentary: “Now these two apparently got put into a police van.
“The policeman recognised Diana and said, ‘oh my goodness, I’m so sorry’.
“They all fell in fits of laughter.
“I think Diana had the devilment, but Sarah was game to do it.”
She continued: “They were hiding behind chairs, watching Andrew.
“Little did he know that they were there and spying.”
Royal expert, Jennie Bond told Channel 5: “They managed to con the policeman into shutting the Palace gates just as Andrew’s car was arriving back.
“So he thought something was up and madly put his car in reverse and went whizzing around the Victoria memorial.
“At which point they thought, ‘oh maybe we’ve gone a bit too far’.”
