Gary Lineker has been branded a ‘hypocrite’ after photos emerged of him not wearing a mask in a shop despite promoting the action heavily online. The football presenter was attacked by ‘Red Wall’ Conservative Lee Anderson who lashed out at the BBC as well in an interview with campaign group, ‘Defund the BBC’. Mr Anderson also addressed the revelations that the new director general Tim Davie would be prepared to sack presenters like Mr Lineker who share strong political opinions about issues such as the migrant crisis on social media.
The MP told viewers: “I see Mr Lineker is still at it.
“He was promoting wearing masks last week and saying we should wear them when we’re out in public, when we out in the shops, and just yesterday he was caught without a mask.
“I don’t know, maybe he was scoffing a bag of crisps or something like that.
“It’s just more BBC liberal hypocrisy from people who tell us what to do.”

He continued: “They’re very good at trying to educate us but when it comes to actually doing it themselves they don’t pay no attention.
“It’s absolute hypocrisy at the highest level.
“I did call Gary Lineker out a few months back about the illegal crossings.
“To be fair to him he did say he would house a refugee but that’s not happened as far as I know.”
Mr Lineker confirmed that he will welcome a refugee into his Surrey home via the charity Refugees at Home.
This came after he criticised the Government’s response to the migrant crisis, branding it “heartless and completely without empathy”.
At the start of September, the former England football star was reported to be hosting a guest “within weeks”.
Mr Lineker has also apologised for not wearing a mask while shopping.
He tweeted: “In my old age, I went into a store and forgot to put my mask on. Was wondering why people were giving me daggers. Realised after a couple of minutes and hastily put it on. Felt awful and embarrassed. Apologies to those present.”
