The political commentator said Scots living elsewhere in the UK must be given the chance to have their say in the second vote. The former Labour and Respect MP said “separatism must be answered by all Scots”.

Dundee-born Mr Galloway told his Twitter followers: “I’ll tell you this: IF there’s to be a second IndyRef, then 795,000 Scots living elsewhere in the UK MUST have a vote.

“If UK expats can vote in General Elections from Spain then an existential question like Separatism MUST be answered by all Scots. “

His followers agreed with his statement, with one saying: “Couldn’t agree more, I live in England but plan to return to Scotland at some point, my voice is surely valid!”

Another said: “Can’t disagree George, I’m over in Texas but intend coming home in a few years but want to vote on what I’m coming back to and it’s not independence.”

One posted: “Spot on George. During the last indy referendum, my wife was studying to be a dentist at Dundee University.

“Her year had many Malaysian students on a 5-year student visa, all of which were eligible to vote on such an important issue for Scots. Incidentally, they all voted yes.”

Another added: “Likewise I was working overseas but not allowed a say on the future of my country but then allowed a Brexit vote; most bizarre.

“Now back in Edinburgh and ready to help boot out the separatist rabble once and for all.”

Mr Galloway has launched the Alliance for Unity party, which aims to keep Scotland in the UK and crush the SNP.

It plans to secure the defeat of the SNP in May 2021 and bring an “end to the Neverendum on Scotland’s future”.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been campaigning for a second referendum on Scottish independence in the hope that the country can rejoin the EU after Brexit.

But Mr Galloway recently told Express.co.uk her plans were “complete madness” and claimed Scotland wouldn’t be independent within the EU.

He argued the SNP leader’s plans are the “very opposite of independence” and Scotland wouldn’t be able to afford to join the Euro.

Mr Galloway said: “It is complete madness. First of all, how independent can a country be, especially a country of five million, inside the EU? That’s the very opposite of independence.

“It would take some years to rejoin the EU.

“Scotland would potentially be, for a very lengthy period, out of the UK and out of the EU at the same time.

“If they were to join the EU, they would have to join the Euro and have to satisfy the criteria for joining the Euro.

“One of which is your deficit must be below three percent and Scotland’s deficit is 8.4 percent.”

Scotland held a referendum on independence in the summer of 2014 which resulted in the loss of Ms Sturgeon’s Yes campaign by ten percentage points.
