The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, visited the Old English Garden in Battersea Park. Earlier on Tuesday, Kate held a video call with eight organisations supporting families to discuss their work and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 38-year-old later went to the park where she met mothers from the groups.

One mother told how Kate revealed why she did not bring two-year-old Louis along.

Christine Thatai said: “She didn’t bring Louis along as there was a fountain where we met, and he would have been in the fountain, splashing around making a big racket.”

During her visit to the park, Kate heard how peer groups could not meet in person during the lockdown but kept up their work remotely.

She met mothers Nalini Sadai and Jessie Brett who provide peer-to-peer support for the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).

They told her they used their own experiences when helping new mothers.

Kate said: “It’s good being able to listen and being listened to while being off guard.

“It is so important for your emotional well-being. With your experiences it’s so important that you’ve been through it.

She wore her glossy brunette hair loose in bouncy curls.

During her earlier video call, mother-of-three Kate said: “A huge well done to all of you, I know there’s a big team of you out there in communities across the country.

“Both William and I hear about how vital these relationships are to families – they’re a real lifeline.

“So to you and your army of volunteers out there, a huge well done.

“I, like you, would love to see peer-to-peer support more embedded and celebrated in communities and society as a whole.”

Kate spent much of the lockdown at Anmer Hall with Prince William and their three children.

The Cambridges kept busy with virtual engagements and home-schooling Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and little Louis.

They have returned to London as restrictions have eased and have been stepping out for face-to-face royal duties.
