Kate, Duchess of Cambridge is celebrating her 39th birthday today and marked the milestone with a muted tweet to thank fans. In the tweet, the Duchess acknowledged the difficulty of marking personal milestone amid a pandemic and thanked followers for their kind messages

Kensington Palace tweeted a photo of Kate in a facemask with the heartfelt message.

“Birthdays have been very different in recent months, and our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time.”

The expert told Express.co.uk: “This very brief message on Kate’s birthday suggests a very responsible and adult approach to the recent crisis.

“After a few words of thanks, Kate performs a verbal swerve here to remove her own birthday from the agenda and pin-up the front-line workers as central to her and all our thoughts.

“It provides a timely contrast to the current celebrity circuit which is busy treating people in lockdown to photos of expensive beach holidays abroad and the kind of party lifestyle that is out of most of our reach right now.

“There was no need to use her birthday message to refer to the ‘hugely challenging time’ but Kate has clearly chosen to avoid any hint of personal celebration and adopt more of a ‘We are all in this together approach to her birthday.”

Judi added: “There is also a subtle regal tone to this message that suggests even more of an easing into her role as future queen.

“The tone is less chatty and informal and more inclined to a possible understanding that people might like the style of words the Queen uses during her broadcasts to the nation, which is a blend of subtly parental/caring and stoic.

“When Kate says that ‘Birthdays have been very different in recent months’ it sounds similar to the kind of understated tone that the Queen uses to acknowledge national problems.

The ‘our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line…’ sounds warm but professional and again creates the similarly empathetic tone that the Queen is known for.”
