The author of the new unofficial biography ‘Finding Freedom’ about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has hit out at Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and the role she played in the Sussexes exit from royal life. Royal expert Omid Scobie, who co-authored the book with Carolyn Durrand, also claimed that the monarchy had “failed” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Mr Scobie said: “These are two women who really have very little in common.

“Meghan was a newcomer and she knew Kate had once been a newcomer.

“From speaking to sources, I think there where times where Meghan felt that she could have had or needed a little more support from Kate.

“She didn’t get it in some of those important moments.”

Speaking to Good Morning America, the author also took the opportunity to dismiss speculation surrounding the two royals.

At the time of Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018, it was reported the then bride-to-be may have made Kate cry in an argument.

According to people who had been there at the time, there were no tears.

Mr Scobie said the story “couldn’t be further from the truth”.

Mr Scobie added: “That was a chance for the monarchy to have diversity, inclusivity and representation in a way that no other moment in their lives could have brought.

“For them to not have harnessed that is something that I’m sure historians will be looking at for years to come.”

There has been no comment from Buckingham Palace on the book so far.

And a separate spokesperson for Meghan and Harry said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to ‘Finding Freedom’.

“This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
