Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, will absolutely become known as queen consort when Prince William becomes King, Richard Fitzwilliams has said. The royal commentator spoke to Express.co.uk about why Kate, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Philip will all have different experiences as spouses of a monarch. Mr Fitzwilliams also highlighted the “question mark” that still surrounds Camilla’s future role in the Royal Family.
He told Express.co.uk: “Philip has carved out his own role as a consort.
“Since he was foreign, he was Greek, he was formally made a British Prince in 1957.
“He’s been the ideal consort but he wasn’t British initially.
“But as for his role, it’s been one that he’s created for himself.”

Mr Fitzwilliams continued: “As far as Camilla’s concerned, there’s a question mark on her title when Charles ascends the throne.
“The current official line is she is to be princess consort.
“That’s for obvious reasons so as to not antagonise those who don’t want to see her as queen consort.
“But when William ascends the throne, Kate will be queen consort of course.”
Mr Fitzwilliams added: “Camilla’s become popular in the country because they realise that she does a good job.
“Also, she makes Charles happy, the two of them have always been inseparable.
“Whether she is made queen consort upon Charles’ succession to the throne is an issue which is hypersensitive and remains a problem.
“Kate will be queen consort without any question.
“We’ve only quite recently had the clarification again that Camilla will be princess consort, not queen consort.”
