London fire: Black smoke fills sky in Hammersmith as tower block hit by blaze | UK | News (Reports)

Thick plumes of smoke were spotted spilling into the skyline in Hammersmith on Thursday afternoon. Fire engines and police were also pictured on social media rushing to the scene. London Fire Brigade said they had sent six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to battle the raging inferno.

The fire erupted at a flat on Hammersmith Grove in Hammersmith.

A statement on their website read: “The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken 17 calls to the blaze.

“The Brigade was called at 1321. Fire crews from Chiswick, Fulham, North Kensington and Lambeth fire stations are at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”

London Fire Brigade added they were tackling the fire on the fifth floor, of an eight-storey block of flats.

It is unclear if anyone has been injured in the fire.

Many took to social media as the fire broke out. 

One wrote on Twitter: “7 fire engines and counting. Multiple ambulances and police. Feeling very worried about everyone.”

Another added: “Fire now in Shepherds Bush / Hammersmith.

“Police don’t know yet what has happened inside.”
