Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has desperately urged Londoners to take the threat of coronavirus seriously, amid growing concern that a London lockdown will be next. In a video uploaded to Twitter, Mr Khan pleaded with Londoners “to be as cautious as possible over this weekend”. This comes as London was added to the Government’s COVID-19 watch-list – with all boroughs classed as areas of concern.
He told Twitter users: “The reality is cases are now on the rise again and we must do more to slow the spread of the virus.
“I know this isn’t easy and that many of us will be dissapointed by the new restrictions.
“But I wouldn’t ask you to make these further sacrifices unless it was absolutely necessary to help save lives and to protect our economy from a full lockdown.
“We face some very difficult days ahead but I know Londoners will stay strong, look out for one another and follow the rules.”
Last night, huge crowds gathered to party along Oxford Street after pubs were closed at the 10pm curfew.
