The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family last year in a bid to become financially independent from the Firm. But rumours emerged of a rift between Prince Harry and his brother William.

The relationship between Prince William and Harry is said to have neared breaking point when William cautioned his younger brother about marrying too quickly.

Just a few years later, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the Firm in a bid to be more financially independent.

But now a source told People Magazine: “Family disagreements tend to lose heat with distance and time.”

They went on to how the couple are “hoping 2021 can be a time of healing not just for the world, but for their family”.

Over the Christmas period, it is believed the two brothers agreed a truce with each other and exchanged gifts.

Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers, said the conflict could have emerged as “love versus duty”.

He told Elle Magazine: “There, on the one hand, you have duty, and on the other hand you have Harry emerging from the same emotional chaos.

“He takes a different lesson: His parents were locked into an arranged, loveless marriage, and he’s not going to make that mistake.

“There is texture and history between these brothers, but it’s never going to be the same.

“I would imagine the base for Harry and Meghan is going to remain in the United States for the foreseeable future.”

Meghan and Harry’s deal with the Royal Family following their departure from their senior roles – dubbed Megxit – is understood to up for review later this year after a year transition period.

Since moving to California, the couple have signed multimillion deals with Netflix and Spotify.

Royal biographer Penny Junor said the couple’s deal with Netflix was already controversial because the firm produced The Crown, with the latest season four straying away from facts while exploring the troubled life of Harry’s late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

She said: “I think unhappily, it is very difficult to square up being a member of the royal family with commercial activity because there are bear traps everywhere.

“I’m sure it never crossed Harry and Meghan’s minds about The Crown, possibly being negative or damaging when they got their wonderful contract from Netflix.

“But the problem is that they left those gold standard advisers when they left Buckingham Palace, when they turned their back on the help that they were getting.”

The couple agreed to a 12-month review with the Palace in their separation deal, which is due on March 31.

Harry was planned to have a face-to-face meeting with the Queen in the UK but due to the ongoing pandemic, it is unlikely to go ahead.
