The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to create TV series, films and children’s shows. It came after Meghan and Harry shocked the nation early last year when they announced their decision to step down as senior royals.
The pair set up a production company as they continue to seek a financially independent life.
According to , Prince Harry cannot ask Netflix bosses to scrap scenes from their hit royal show The Crown.
The streaming platform recently released the controversial fourth season of the show which portrays the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
But under their Netflix production deal, the Sussexes are not allowed to have any control in The Crown’s upcoming seasons five and six.
A Netflix insider told that Meghan and Harry will not be consulted about commissioning shows which may be seen as “anti-Royal or have negative connotations for their wider family and friends”.
The Crown’s fourth season faced a huge backlash from some royal fans and commentators who accused the show of using “lots of invention” in its interpretation of Royal history.
Royal correspondent Omid Scobie, who wrote Harry and Meghan’s biography, said the show was shaping the narrative of the British Monarchy across the globe.
The Netflix insider told the streaming giant had enjoyed a “relatively easy negotiation with the Sussexes” when they negotiated their deal.

According to the report, the source also claimed The Crown will cover the “problematic aspects” of Prince Harry growing up following the death of his mother Princess Diana in 1997.
The source said: “Netflix would not and certainly will not offer the Duke and Duchess of Sussex any control of the company’s brand editorial policies or strategy. And nor would they.
“Essentially that means The Crown’s storyline, plots or subject matter cannot be altered by the Sussexes. All decisions regarding storylines run by the channel executives, board and the legal team.
“In reality Harry cannot edit his controversial moments off Netflix just because he and his wife have a huge deal.
“While The Crown was broadly discussed, there was no hard bargaining by the Sussexes about that during the deal making.
“Their prime concern was solely the TV projects which they were focused on, their passions and very little else.
“They will have editorial control, but should anything displease the board or legal team it will be removed by Netflix – no ifs or buts.”
The source added: “And for Harry there is no way his traumas and colourful moments in his youth can be ignored given how Morgan has written about much of the Royal’s scandals.”
The Crown’s creator Peter Morgan confirmed last year the show’s season 6 will take the story up to the early 2000s.
In a statement about their Netflix deal, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they want to focus on content “that informs but also gives hope”.
