Hugo Vickers, royal biographer for Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Mary and the Duchess of Windsor, said the Duke of Sussex is “isolated” from the Royal Family since his step down from life as a working royal. His comments come ahead of a planned summit reviewing the Sussexes royal status with Queen Elizabeth II, which is said to be scrapped due to coronavirus.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Mr Vickers said it seems unlikely the LA-based Sussex royals will be speaking to the monarch in person over their status as royals.
He added: “There’s supposed to be a summit with the Sussexes in March.
“I can’t see them coming over to discuss this personally.
“He’s isolated from his family, the army, his friends, the Commonwealth. It’s a pointless existence in self-exile.”

Meghan and Harry have purchased a mansion in Montecito, LA, believed to be worth $14 million.
The move came after the Sussexes stepped down from full-time royal duties in March last year.
Mr Vickers described how Harry had been doing “such a good job” as a working royal, touting his time in the Army and work for the Commonwealth as “good for him”.
He added: “He seemed to have found his level and his skill. During the NHS clapping.
“I thought how, after the Cambridges clapped, it would have been great to have heard from him.”
Harry is believed to want to retain his military appointments afforded to him as a royal with the year-long extension.
But senior royal advisers are understood to be concerned about how Meghan and Harry signed multi-million dollar deals with media giants like Spotify and Netflix.
reported advisers are closely inspecting the contracts stuck by the Sussexes to make sure they are keeping in-line with “the values of Her Majesty”.
Despite the concerns over the deals, the latest discussions over Meghan and Harry’s role status are said to be “less confrontational” than those at Sandringham last year.
It also follows Andrew Morton, royal biographer, claiming the Sussex royals are hoping to return to the UK for the Queen’s 95th birthday, Prince Philip’s 100th birthday and a statue unveiling for Princess Diana in Kensington Palace.
Mr Morton said, should coronavirus restrictions allow, Harry “wants to meet face-to-face’ with the Royal Family.
He added to the Daily Mail: “Harry has been in contact with the Queen more often than you would think. But certain things you need to be there in person to sort.
“They will need a few weeks. That could be done after April, depending on Covid.”
