Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born in May 2019 at Portland Hospital, London. Royal expert Daniela Elser claimed “the entire handling” of Archie’s arrival was “quite befuddling”.

When Archie’s birth was announced, royal watchers were left very confused.

In the afternoon of May 6 2019, Buckingham Palace released a statement to confirm that Meghan had gone into labour “in the early hours of the morning”.

But a second announcement said the Duchess of Sussex had delivered her baby at 5.26am.

The two statements were released less than 20 minutes apart from each other.

Ms Elser explained how Meghan and Harry “had made it patently clear” they did not want to disclose too much information to the press.

She wrote on: “The entire handling of the seventh-in-line to the throne’s arrival was all quite befuddling.

“While ahead of his arrival his parents, Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, had made it patently clear they wanted nothing to do with the media dog-and-pony show that is usually part and parcel of the arrival of any wee relation of the Queen, the handling of the actual day was baffling.”

Ms Elser added how the handling of the announcements left the British press “sour” and “miffed”.

When asked what it was like to be present at the birth, Prince Harry laughed and said: “I haven’t been at many births. This is definitely my first birth.

“It was amazing, absolutely incredible, and, as I said, I’m so incredibly proud of my wife.

“As every father and parent will ever say, you know, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to-die-for, so I’m just over the moon.”

He added: “It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.”

Ms Elser’s comments came amid recent reports of Meghan and Harry’s name change on their son’s birth certificate.

The Duchess denied she had asked for her name to be changed on the document.

Alterations on the birth certificate showed Meghan dropped her first name in favour of her royal titles and the Duke added Prince before Harry.

Some royal watchers claimed the name change was a “snub” but the Sussexes have rejected the accusations.

A spokesman for the Sussexes said: “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials.

“This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex.”
