Meghan Markle, 39, has been criticised for holding a £330,000 New York baby shower for Archie Harrison and boasts a well-packed wardrobe totalling £787,000. But royal experts have defended the Duchess of Sussex who now lives in an LA mansion with Prince Harry, 35. Speaking to the Channel 5 documentary, ‘Meghan & Harry: The New Revelations’, one royal commentator claimed it was a “non-issue” and suggested that Meghan was spending her own money.

Narrator Jennifer Saayeng said: “Meghan has faced criticism for pretty much every move she has made even down to the clothes she wears.”

Dylan Howard, the author of Royals at War added: “When Meghan came on the scene and started wearing gowns that were thousands of dollars and living an extravagant lifestyle is began to rub people up the wrong way.”

Journalist Afua Adom noted: “Someone’s got to spend the most and Meghan’s the one that spends the most.

“It’s a non-issue. She’s probably spending her own money, what’s the big deal?”

In the documentary, the royal experts also discussed how Harry and Meghan announced their plans to step down as senior members of the Royal Family in January with a jaw-dropping Instagram post which sparked the now infamous Sandringham summit.

The Duke of Sussex met with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William to discuss further steps to his departure where he was told he couldn’t use his title in a professional capacity.

Royal expert Emily Andrews explained how Harry had to “give up his country”.

Ms Andrews said: “Harry has had to give up everything.

“Even so it’s said courtiers and some family blame Meghan for Megxit.”

Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke said: “This girl who fell in love with a boy who happened to be part of the Royal Family and she gave up her whole career to move over here, to follow tradition and she literally couldn’t win.”

Equal right activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu added: “She basically gave up part of herself because that is what would have been expected of Meghan and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

“They all did that out of love for their spouses and out of respect for the institution.”
