The Duchess of Sussex, 39, and the Queen’s grandson, 36, first met on a “blind date” four years ago. They initially kept their relationship secret and spent time together with the US star’s best friend Jessica Mulroney, away from prying eyes. The couple made their first public appearance together in November 2016 at the Invictus Games. Meghan and Harry tied the knot two years later and now have one-year-old son Archie Harrison. The couple drew scrutiny over their decision to depart from senior roles within the Royal Family and move to Montecito, California. Recently they have come under fire for making political comments in speeches and wearing clothing that reflects their views – which breaks the Royal Family’s apolitical stance. Among the topics referenced by the royal couple was the 2020 US election, hate speech and the Supreme Court nominee to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

TV personality Gayle King felt the criticism of Meghan was unjust and described her friend as sweet, loving and kind in a number of heartfelt disclosures.

The US star said: “She’s extremely generous with her time and her spirit and I wish we heard more about that.”

Ms King said they were “really going to be just fine” and the public should not “have to worry” about them despite regular media coverage.

She went on to claim that they were right to take a different path to Prince Charles and Prince William because of Harry’s distant claim to the throne.

Her comments were echoed by Oprah Winfrey who spoke to Ms King on CBS This Morning last year.

The talk show host claimed that if “people really knew” Meghan, they would find her charming.

Oprah said: “She is not only everything you perceive her as being – graceful and dynamic in holding that position – but that she just has a wonderful warm, giving, funny heart.

“I see all the crazy press around her and I think it’s really unfair.”
