Royal commentator Grant Harrold has said it is “unlikely” Meghan Markle and Prince Harry – who have both intervened in the upcoming US election – will be allowed to return to their senior royal positions when a review with the Queen takes place next spring. Meghan and Harry, who have kept their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, both appeared to break royal protocol by discussing the upcoming Presidential race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden on November 3.
In a video Prince Harry urged Americans to “reject hate speech”, while Meghan described the vote as the “most important election of our lifetime”.
Mr Harrold, who worked as a Butler to Prince Harry’s father, the Prince of Wales, from 2004 until 2011, said he cannot envisage how Meghan and Harry can return to their former roles, but insisted they may one day return to the UK after their stint in LA.
He told Express.co.uk: “It is unlikely they would return back into the Royal family as senior members due to their political views and actions regarding that.
“But there is still hope they may return to our shores as we have seen other Royal families across the world are ever evolving with modern times.”
Buckingham Palace has distanced itself from the recent remarks by the Queen’s grandson.
Meghan and Harry have become financially independent and are no longer working royals. Mr Harrold insists this means the couple “may be entitled to now have strong political views”.
He added: “The Queen famously does not get involved with politics within the UK or worldwide, so I am sure she would not have a comment upon this.
“But as Prince Harry and The Duchess of Sussex are now no longer senior members of the British Royal family, then they may be entitled to now have strong political views which will become obvious in the coming years, unless of course they are reinstated as working Royals in the future.”
In a video message for Time 100 earlier this week, Prince Harry said the upcoming US election was a “time to not only reflect, but act”.
He said: “This election I’m not going to be able to vote here in the US, but many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the UK my entire life.
“As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.”

The US president, who has previous with the couple after refusing to pay for their personal security costs while living in the US, said he was “not a fan” of Meghan.
At a White House briefing, Mr Trump added: “I would say this – and she has probably has heard that.
“I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it.”
