In Finding Freedom, the new biography about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, co-authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand reveal the specific moment that led to Meghan and Kate’s fallout. Although Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton “were not at war with each other,” they “struggled to move past distant politeness,” an excerpt published in Marie Claire UK has revealed.

However, according to the book, the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge started distancing themselves in 2017, when Meghan and Harry were not married yet.

The start of that distant relationship was marked on a day in which Meghan and Kate found out they were going shopping on the same street.

While the pair could have left Kensington Palace together, Kate decided to drive the opposite way in her Range Rover, leaving Meghan behind.

According to Mr Scobie and Ms Durand, Kate did not make an effort to “bridge the divide”.

The authors have claimed that when the Duchesses first met, Meghan tried to bond with Kate by gifting her a Smythson notebook, but the book describes the pair as having “nothing in common”.

The Duchess of Sussex expected to establish a different relationship with Kate, who she expected to give her advice on how to adapt to royal life.

The authors wrote: “But that was not how things turned out.

”Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn’t losing sleep over it.”

Ms Nicholl added: “I was sitting behind William and Kate and Meghan and Harry two rows back with other members of the press at that service and there was absolutely a tension between the two couples.

“While Kate turned around to speak to Edward and Sophie Wessex, she just didn’t acknowledge Meghan and Harry at all and that was very obvious.”

Ms Saayeng added: “Finding Freedom notes that after flying straight back to Canada, Meghan ‘at that point couldn’t imagine wanting to set a foot back into anything royal again’.”

But the Duchesses were not the only ones to find themselves as the subjects of feud rumours.

Their husbands, Prince Harry and Prince William have reportedly had a complicated relationship ever since Harry started seriously dating Meghan.
