Meghan Markle has become increasingly vocal on American politics since quitting the Royal Family and moving to the US with husband Prince Harry. As a result, a royal expert has claimed Meghan could well run for political office in the future.
Most recently the Duchess urged Americans to vote in the upcoming Presidential election, which she described as the “most important election of our lifetime”.
Meghan made the comments during a video as part of a Time 100 event where she appeared alongside Prince Harry.
The Duchess implored the electorate to vote, while Harry discussed the importance of rejecting “hate speech, misinformation and online negativity”.
Responding to the clip, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said Meghan’s remarks “make sense” and came at no real surprise.
He also suggested the Duchess could decide to enter US politics at a later date.
The expert told Express.co.uk: “Looking very broadly to the future, we know what she believes, we know she would be an ideal Democratic Party Congresswoman, or perhaps even higher who knows.”
Mr Fitzwilliams conceded it was too early to predict her true intentions, but that running for office is “a distinct possibility”.
He added: “But you definitely see the activist side coming out of her and you see this a lot now.”

Mr Fitzwilliams also said Meghan has “every right” to openly encourage Americans to vote.
He did not consider the recent video a breach of royal code, as he said the Duke and Duchess’ current position is very different to that of other members of the Royal Family.
He said: “I think the fact that she is urging Americans to vote is totally in line with what she is able to do in the position that she finds herself in.”
The royal commentator added that if the Queen considers their current stance goes too far, the matter will be discussed when they revisit the agreement brokered in March, which will be reviewed after one year.
Mr Fitzwilliams also pointed out Meghan and Harry are no longer working royals and are now commercially independent from the Royal Family.
As a result, he said “there is nothing to stop Meghan from following her dreams”.
Camilla Tominey, another royal commentator who is associate editor of the Daily Telegraph, also believes Meghan has political ambitions.
She said: “For in urging Americans to vote in a video alongside Prince Harry, which more than hints at Democrat leanings, Meghan may well have laid the first stone in her path to the White House.”
