The Duchess of Sussex will tell the US media mogul about the “impact that living in UK had on her mental health,” according to ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship. A teaser for the CBS special was released earlier this week, sparking backlash among royal fans who have pointed out that Prince Philip remains hospitalised at present.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Mr Ship gave viewers an insight on the subjects the Duchess has touched on during the interview, which is set to air this Sunday.
He said: “I know that she is going to mention things like mental health and the impact of being in the UK had on her mental health.
“I know that she’s going to mention about the press intrusion, but also she’s going to raise the issue of race in Britain.
“I’m not sure this is the right panel to discuss that about how when you are either black or mixed heritage like Meghan how she felt in the UK.
“That issue, I think, is the one we are going to be talking about next week.”
The claims come after insiders said the interview was purportedly in the planning for two years, despite having only been announced last month.
The CBS special is said to have arisen after Meghan previously tried to set up a televised interview with the network’s anchor and friend Gayle King, sources told DailyMail.com.
However, the idea was rejected by the Palace press team at the time over fears “it would alienate the UK press”, one insider claimed.
According to one source, Ms King and Oprah have been discussing a chat with the Duke and the Duchess ever since.
The talks purportedly eventually led to the 90-minute interview due to air on CBS this Sunday.
The Palace insider claimed after her interview was denied by royal staff, but “Meghan put her foot down” so Ms King would be invited to the first photoshoot of the Sussexes with newborn Archie.
According to one palace source, the couple’s bid to “manage their own public image away from select UK media” was an early source of tension between them and the royal PR team.
