Mrs Mulroney posted the statement on her Instagram after becoming embroiled in a controversy with influencer Sasha Exeter over the former TV host’s “white privilege”. The Duchess of Sussex and her best friend have been linked since Meghan’s days in Canada for the show Suits in 2011. Rumours spread this year that Meghan had cut out Mrs Mulroney from her life due to the controversy.
On her social media, Mrs Mulroney posted a picture of her and her husband Ben Mulroney celebrating with a kiss.
She wrote: “After a few rough months, something to finally celebrate. Thank you for being by my side Benny.
“Thank you to our true friends for sticking by us. We could never have made it without you.
“Silver lining: We finally know who the a******s who we thought were our friends. Best gift we could have ever been given.”

The couple celebrate their 12-year anniversary on October 30th, but Mrs Mulroney does not specify what they are celebrating.
But the post references Mrs Mulroney’s race row with Ms Exeter after the influencer posted about Black Lives Matter.
Ms Exeter claimed Mrs Mulroney “took offence” at her posts about the movement, and was sent “a trail of offensive messages” and was allegedly threatened by her.
Mrs Mulroney was reported to have said: “I have also spoken to companies and people about the way you’ve treated me unfairly.
“You think your voice matters, well it only matters if you express it with kindness and without shaming people who are simply trying to learn. Good luck.”
Another source close to the royal told Entertainment Tonight Meghan found her best friends “misguided and insensitive comments” to be “painful”.
But after returning to social media in August, Mrs Mulroney hit back at reports she and Meghan had fallen out over the issue.
She said on her Instagram story: “I’m going to tell this once and for all. Meghan and I are family.
“She is the kindest friend and has checked up on me every day.
“Tabloid culture is atrocious. It creates lies and hurtful storyline. Stop feeding into it. Done.”
Mrs Mulroney and her children played a central role in the Duchess’ wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.
Ivy, 7, was a flower girl for Meghan’s wedding, with Mrs Mulroney walking her up the steps of St George’s Chapel.
Recently Mrs Mulroney launched a new range of flower girl dresses using her daughter as a model.
Referencing the royal wedding, she said: “Ivy has bridal in her blood”.
