The couple released a stylish black and white photograph of themselves sitting under a tree. In the photo, Prince Harry appears to be stroking Meghan’s hair, while she rests her head on his lap and touches her baby bump. The photograph was taken remotely by their photographer friend Misan Harriman, who has now explained the carefully constructed symbolism around the photo.
In an interview with British Vogue, Mr Harriman said the tree symbolised life and the garden fertility.
He told the magazine: “With the tree of life behind them and the garden representing fertility, life and moving forward, they didn’t need any direction, because they are, and always have been, waltzing through life together as absolute soulmates.”
The photographer, who became the first black man to shoot a cover for British Vogue, went on to explain that he tried to capture the couple’s “truth”.
He added: “When you see people who have the connection that they have, it’s like reading the pages of a book.”
News of Meghan’s pregnancy was confirmed by a spokesperson for the couple on Sunday.
They said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.
