Tony Miklinski told Express.co.uk that discipline within the SNP is cracking as a section of the party want another referendum on Scottish independence at any cost. Mr Miklinski stated that Nicola Sturgeon is not that ilk and instead wants to wait until winning the vote is absolutely certain.

He said: “Nicola Sturgeon’s position has always hindered on the discipline of the SNP.

“There have been signs of that cracking for quite a long time now.”

Mr Miklinski added: “

She will find herself increasingly pressurised by the ‘let’s go for it’ braveheart wing of the party which wants a referendum now at any cost.

“She is not naturally of that ilk, she wants to be absolutely certain of winning.

“Therefore, the tensions in that party are very considerable.

“The fact that they have managed to keep it together for 14 years, you have got to admire it.

“The discipline they have had is at a cost, it means when things start to go wrong you can end up with a cataclysmic breakdown

“We have got to encourage that frankly for the good of the country, before they take us a place we do not want to go.”

“So while without doubt she is the most able politician in the SNP ranks, I don’t think her power base is secure because people are getting impatient.

“They have been promised so many times that they would get independence and it was just around the corner and they have been disappointed so many times.

“They have been promised the impossible, they said once in a generation, we are six years on, that is not a generation.

“Nicola has got nothing left to offer.”
