Police have surrounded a suspect in Père Lachaise, a region in the city’s 11th arrondissement.
One witness said on Twitter: “There’s a guy walking through the halls of Père Lachaise with a machete.
“I watched my life pass, not knowing if I should stay in the metro or run back.”
Police sources have now indicated the suspect is “entrenched” in a building nearby.
Specialist officers are at the scene.
