The outspoken journalist took to Twitter just minutes after Dr Conley lead a briefing on Donald Trump’s current condition. He berated the White House physician for “spewing c**p”, after it emerged the doctor gave a rosy assessment of the President’s condition yesterday.

Mr Morgan was furious that Dr Conley admitted to giving a rosy assessment of Trump’s health status yesterday.

The leading physician said he wanted to convey the “upbeat attitude” of Trump’s medical team.

Responding to the news, the broadcaster wrote on Twitter: “Outrageous disingenuousness by the President’s doctor.

“He lied yesterday & he’s continued spewing misleading crap again today.

“The American people deserve better than this – Dr Conley should resign.”

A White House team of doctors said on Saturday morning Trump’s condition was improving and that he was already talking about returning to the White House.

Dr Conley told reporters outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that the President had not had trouble breathing and was not give oxygen at the the hospital.

He repeatedly declined to comment on whether Trump had previously been given oxygen.

He said Trump had been given supplemental oxygen twice, on Thursday and Friday, and doctors have also given him dexamethason.

Dexamethasone is shown in studies to improve survival for patients hospitalised with critical COVID-19 who need extra oxygen.

But it should not be given in mild cases since it can limit the body’s own ability to combat the virus, according to guidelines from the Infectious Disease Society of America.

Trump is also being given an experimental treatment, Regeneron’s REGN-COV2, as well as zinc, Vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and aspirin, his doctors have said.

Dr Conley told reporters: “The patient continues to improve.

“He has remained without fever since Friday morning, his vital signs are stable.”

The physician even indicated Trump could be discharged from hospital on Monday.
