Last week, the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London as a “precautionary measure” in response to an infection he is still receiving treatment for. But the health concerns are purportedly affecting Her Majesty, who is “leaning on her loved ones for support”, according to an insider.
The source told Us Weekly on Thursday: “It’s a lot to take on.
”But as usual, Elizabeth is handling the stress and sadness with dignity.
“Prince William, Duchess Kate, Duchess Camilla and Prince Charles and Princess Beatrice are rallying around Elizabeth, even Princess Eugenie who has just given birth is checking in.”
But the heir to the throne is said to have become the Monarch’s main support as he takes on more responsibilities.
The insider said: “Prince Charles, in particular, is making an effort to step up.
“Elizabeth is the first to admit that he has been her pillar of strength.”
The claims come as a Buckingham Palace source confirmed Philip is likely to remain under observation for now.
In one of the latest updates about the Duke’s condition, Prince Edward said the Royal Family are keeping their “fingers crossed” but that his father is “a lot better”.
Prince Charles is understood to have visited the Duke at King Edward VII Hospital on Saturday afternoon, arriving at about 3.20pm.
He is understood to have travelled down to central London from his home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire.
Prince Philip had not seen Charles since before Christmas due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
