Prince William and Prince Harry came together just days before the 23rd anniversary of the death of Princess Diana to issue an important update on plans for a statue of the Princess of Wales, three years after it was commissioned. The brothers said the monument will be installed on what would have been the day of her 60th birthday.
A joint statement on behalf of the Duke of Sussex and Duke of Cambridge issued by Kensington Palace read: “The statue that Prince William and Prince Harry have commissioned to commemorate their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, will be installed next year on what would have been her 60th birthday.
“The statue was commissioned to mark the 20th anniversary of her death and recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world.
“The statue will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on July 1 2021, marking the Princess’s 60th birthday.
“The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy.”
Kensington Palace has yet to reveal who will attend the unveiling of this statue.
This statue will come after the unveiling of Diana’s memorial fountain in 2004.
