Omid Scobie, who co-authored the recent book ‘Finding Freedom’ about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, claimed Harry is better able to continue his mother’s work outside the Royal Family. What’s more, Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and who knew the late Princess of Wales, added that Diana had in fact wanted to move to the US herself. Tragically, she never got the chance as she was killed in a car crash in Paris in August 1997.

When Harry turned 18 just over five years later, he publicly vowed to “carry on the things she didn’t quite finish”.

Yesterday Harry turned 36 years old, the same age Diana was when she died.

Mr Scobie said: “I would call it destiny.

“This is a man who said he wanted to continue his mother’s work

“We’ve long mourned Diana’s place on the humanitarian landscape, and here we have Harry, who embodies her values and is willing to dedicate his life to them.

“He’s at an age now where he’s taken that baton and is able to run with it in a way that he never would have been able to do within the House of WIndsor.

“That’s very powerful and exciting.”

Ms Seward also spoke to Vanity Fair ahead of Harry’s birthday, asserting that Harry can celebrate “on a high”.

She added that he is embracing his new life with Meghan and Archie in Santa Barbara and does not miss his old life at all.

She also claimed that, while Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior royals is a sore spot for many within the Firm, Diana may have actually approved of the bold move.

The royal author said: “Diana often spoke about wanting to move to America; Harry’s actually done it.”

Indeed, the Princess of Wales described Kensinton Palace as “prison” and longed to break free, but she could not bear to leave her children behind.

However, Ms Seward admitted she was still surprised that Harry chose to leave the UK.

She said: “I know he has always hated the media and quite often hated being a prince, but I never thought he would leave his homeland.

“He’s always been such a lover of British life, polo, the countryside, the shooting, Scotland.

“That said, with Harry it’s all or nothing, and it always has been.

“He doesn’t do anything by halves. He’s always done things differently.

“As a boy, people at the palace would say, ‘Harry’s Harry, he does his own thing,’ and he always has.”

Now, Harry and Meghan are setting up a whole new life in the US with the eyes of the world watching them.

They have signed a landmark deal with Netflix to produce a variety of programmes, and are working towards setting up their non-profit Archewell.

They are also raising their one-year-old son, Archie, who Harry said is their first priority.

The royal couple spent lockdown in California but are reportedly intending to spend an extended period of time in the UK next year.
