Prince Harry could see history repeat itself if Meghan Markle embarks on a political career, as he is faced with living in the shadow of his wife’s fame. Such a prospect could be hard for the Duke to come to terms with, as Harry grew up feeling overshadowed by his older brother Prince William, who will one day inherit the British throne.

Such a scenario was pointed out by royal commentator Camilla Tominey, who is associate editor of the Daily Telegraph.

Writing in a comment piece, the journalist said Meghan’s political ambitions could prove difficult for Prince Harry.

She said: “The prospect of Harry becoming a ‘First Husband’ does pose some fascinating questions though.

“Imagine them both undertaking a state visit to the UK and being hosted by the Queen!

“Also, how might the 36-year-old Royal feel playing second fiddle to Meghan, 39, when in Britain, the seniority of their roles were reversed?

“I make this point mindful of the fact he has felt overshadowed by his brother all his life and therefore may not want to spend the rest of it in hiswife’s shadow.

“Or maybe he’s happy to take a back seat? There is certainly no doubting his love for his wife and son, Archie.”

Ms Tominey made the comments after the pair discussed US politics in a recent video broadcast as part of a Time 100 event.

In a 2016 TV interview, shot before she married into the Royal Family, Meghan said she would to Canada if Trump was elected President.

She also called the Republican “divisive” and “misogynistic”.

Bookmakers have slashed odds on the likelihood of Meghan running for President in 2024.

Bet fair dropped odds from 66/1 to 20/1, but the odds of her winning the race are rather low.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Meghan Markle’s likelihood of running for President in 2024 has dramatically improved from 66/1 to 20/1 following her latest comments on the US election.

“Since dropping her royal duties in January, the Duchess has shown she’s not afraid to intervene in US politics – despite it being controversial.

“Even though she’s a 500/1 shot to win in 2024, this is just another example of Meghan potentially building her political profile for if she’s to run in the future.”

Ladbrokes have Meghan on odds of 100/1 to become President of the US in 2024.
