Mr Clooney, 59, and Amal Clooney, 42, were two of 600 guests who watched Harry and Meghan tie the knot in St George’s Cathedral in 2018. But Rachel Johnson, sister to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has claimed the couple told Princess Diana’s friend Carolyn Bartholomew they did not know the Sussexes.
Ms Johnson wrote about the Clooney’s surprising confession on the website AirMail, as well as claiming how the stars at the Sussexes wedding could not have been close friends.
She said: “In 2018, there was a splashy royal wedding full of celebrities that could not possibly be old and dear friends of the bridal couple.
“Oprah, Posh and Becks, James Corden, et al., went to Harry and Meghan’s nuptials, and there’s a story doing the rounds that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan.
“’We don’t,’ the Clooney’s answered brightly.”

Mr and Mrs Clooney were given seats right next to Lady Carolyn Warren, the wife of the Queen’s bloodstock adviser John Warren, and opposite Princess Margaret’s son Viscount Linley.
Accounts from those at the ceremony claimed the Hollywood star was well received at the wedding, and danced with Meghan and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Reports from OK! magazine have claimed Harry has turned to Mr Clooney for advice on living in Los Angeles, after the Duke and Duchess stepped back from royal duties earlier this year.
A source close to the Duke claimed to the magazine Harry looks up to the star as a “big brother figure”, and added: “Harry’s grateful to have him in his corner.”

Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their biography about the Sussexes, ‘Finding Freedom’, that the royals have become firm friends with the Clooney’s.
According to the book, Meghan and Harry were invited twice to the Clooney’s British home in Sonning, Oxfordshire.
The book also claimed the Sussexes spent time at the property’s lake, where the Clooney’s “had a secluded decked area and inside was a lounge decorated with traditional club wood panelling, heavy drapes, dark velvets, plush chairs, and a bar”.

‘Finding Freedom’ also said the Hollywood couple invited Harry and Meghan to Lake Como just weeks after the royal wedding.
A source close to the Sussexes told the authors: “Meghan and Amal spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool and playing with the twins while George and Harry checked out George’s motorbike collection.
“Harry took one of them out with one of his protection officers. George recently had an accident, so he wasn’t back on his bike yet.”
“The Duke and Duchess weren’t the only guests that weekend. Eugenie and her fiance, Jack Brooksbank, were already at the villa when Harry and Meghan arrived, their visits overlapping briefly.”

Mr Clooney has also spoken out in support of Meghan, claiming the constant attention on the Duchess is similar to how Diana was treated.
He added: “They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere; she’s been pursued and vilified.
“She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant, and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself.
“We’ve seen how that ends.”
