The 2021 Invictus Games are “hanging by a thread” as they are at risk of being cancelled yet again due to the coronavirus crisis, according to royal commentators. Prince Harry’s sporting event for wounded, injured and sick veterans was supposed to take place in the Netherlands last year but had to be postponed because of the pandemic. Although it was rescheduled for May 2021, HeirPod host Omid Scobie and ABC News foreign correspondent Maggie Rulli expressed their doubts about it going ahead.
Mr Scobie told listeners: “Although there’s no news on the Invictus Games, that is coming up later this year before the summer
“It’s probably hanging by a thread, I would imagine, at the moment.
“But I would also imagine that they’re really trying to work out how they could still make it work in some capacity.
“As with a lot of sporting events this year, that’s going to be a real challenge for anyone involved in that arena.”

Ms Rulli agreed: “It’s unfortunate. I think when it was postponed last year, no one thought they’d be talking about cancelling or postponing it again.
“Two years in a row of missing it would hurt the charity.
“It also means so much for many of those athletes that train for this moment, and just the awareness that it brings.
“So I think a lot of people are hoping it can go on.”
The Games are now planned to be held from May 29 to June 5.
Prince Harry had announced the “sad” news of the 2020 event being delayed in a short video message.
He told viewers last year: “I know how disappointed you all must be. This is a focus that so many of you need.
“You can use this opportunity to get even fitter and be at your absolute top mental and physical fitness.
“Please take care of yourselves, but do what you do best which is reaching out to other people, be it those that still wear the uniform, used to wear the uniform or just those people in your community who you know may be suffering or may be vulnerable during this period.”
