The statement added: “The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s doctor, after feeling unwell.
“The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
Prince Charles, 72, was the first member of the Royal Family to visit Philip in hospital on Saturday after making the 100-mile trip from his home in Gloucestershire.
While Buckingham Palace declined to comment on whether Charles’s visit was in keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, King Edward VII’s website states that visits under the current lockdown are only permitted in “exceptional circumstances.”
