Prince William marked the 40th anniversary of The Passage, a charity helping people living on the streets, by writing the foreword of its upcoming cookbook called ‘A Taste Like Home’, Kensington Palace has revealed. In his heartfelt message, the Duke highlighted the importance of his patronage’s work on a day to day basis – especially while coronavirus continues to grip Britain.
However, the Duke of Cambridge also made a cheeky confession about what truly happens in the kitchen at his own home.
William opened the foreword to the book saying: “I am the first one to admit that I am not an excellent chef.”
The Duke goes on sharing memories from his visits to the charity, which provides food to homeless people and actively works to take them off the streets.
He wrote: “The last time I was allowed in the kitchens at The Passage they very sensibly kept me in the role of sous-chef (aka carrot-chopper).
“On that occasion, I ‘made’ a spaghetti bolognaise (recipe omn page 101).
“The dish smelt amazing – probably because I didn’t cook it.
“But what struck me most was how sharing a hot meal in the canteen at The Passage makes people who are experiencing homelessness feel right at home.”
The Duke acknowledged the difficulties experienced by many during the national lockdown, when the Government asked the population to only leave their homes when strictly necessary.

But, he noted, for homeless people not having a place “to call home” at this time makes the pandemic an even more terrifying reality.
He said: “Having a place to call home is precious. All of us will have felt the strain of staying in our homes during the coronavirus lockdown.
“But for those without a place to call home, the pandemic has been even more frightening.
“Thankfully, The Passage made sure there was a route off the streets and into safety.
