Princess Charlotte’s favourite animal has been dubbed a “total surprise” by royal commentators. Town & Country senior editor Caroline Hallemann joined the Royally Obsessed podcast to discuss the best royal moments of 2020. She pinpointed a social media video that had been released in October of Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge’s children eagerly asking Sir David Attenborough animal questions.

Ms Hallemann told listeners: “The Cambridge kids talking with David Attenborough turned out to be one of my favourite moments of the year.

“Their little questions about animals were so sweet.

“It really was cute. I’m obsessed with this video.

“It’s the first time we’ve really heard the kids speak in an official capacity, which is significant in that respect.”

She continued: “I also just loved how Charlotte was talking about how she likes spiders.

“So unexpected to have a princess who loves spiders.

“And then little Prince Louis really steals the show for me.

“Him asking David Attenborough what his favourite animal is, and mispronouncing the word ‘animal’ was great.”

The video was filmed by Kensington Palace in support of Sir David’s latest feature documentary, ‘A Life on Our Planet’.

The film, which explored humanity’s impact on nature, was released on streaming service Netflix in October last year.

An early screening had been shown to the Cambridge family when Sir David visited them in-person.

The meeting took place outside due to coronavirus concerns.

Prince William and Sir David sat in the garden under blankets to protect them.
