Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ difficulties became clearer as the pair struggled through their marriage. Channel 5’s royal documentary Fergie Vs Diana: Royal Wives at War, explored the struggles Princess Diana had with her relationship with the Royal Family. One aspect that caused frustration for the Princess was her relationship with friend Sarah Ferguson.

Royal commentators noted how a strained friendship here also caused problems during her marriage to Prince Charles.

Behavioural Psychologist and royal commentator Jo Hemming highlighted a row between Diana and Charles that resulted in one of the most hurtful exchanges between the pair.

She said: “There was a point at which that Prince Charles said to Princess Diana, why can’t you be more like Fergie.

“Now for someone who has self-esteem that is already low, who is feeling very vulnerable, that wasn’t just a rebuke.
