Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31 1997 when she was just 36. Her former chef Darren McGrady took to Twitter and shared a picture of the Princess to mark the day.
On the photo she had handwritten: “To Darren. Love from Diana.”
Mr McGrady said: “Twenty three years ago today the world lost this special lady. #PrincessDiana.”
Royal fans also flooded Twitter with tributes to Diana.
One tweeted: “Remembering the life of this wonderful human on the 23rd anniversary of her death. May her legacy live forever.”
Another wrote: “23 years ago we lost a angel, our queen of hearts.”
A third added: “It’s been 23 years since Diana died.
“The almost overwhelming shock of watching the news as her death was reported, is one of those moments that feels as fresh today as it did then.

Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed died when their Mercedes crashed in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.
William and Harry were only aged 15 and 12.
On Friday, a joint statement was issued on behalf of the brothers about the statue they have commissioned to mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death.
The installation by artist Ian Rank-Broadley, which has been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, will be unveiled in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on July 1 next year.
The date would have been Diana’s 60th birthday.
The brothers would usually mark the anniversary of their mother’s death together but due to the coronavirus outbreak and Harry’s move to the US they have been forced to do things slightly differently this year.
Instead it is likely they will connect and mark the occasion through a video call, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.
