Princess Eugenie, 30, and Jack Brooksbank, 35, are likely to be delighted following the safe arrival of their royal baby on Tuesday. Their son was born at London’s private Portland Hospital at 8.55am weighing 8lbs 1oz. Eugenie’s first child is Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip’s 9th great-grandchild and far down the line of succession.
Buckingham Palace released an official statement to announce the arrival of Eugenie’s baby which read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, February 9, 2021, at 8.55am at The Portland Hospital.
“Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.
“This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

While Eugenie’s son is 11th in line to the throne and unlikely to ever be a working member of the monarchy, there is one tradition they will be expected to adhere to in regards to their christening.
Windsor Family babies are traditionally christened in the same Honiton lace gown.
The special gown is a precise replica of the one commissioned by Queen Victoria and first used at the christening of her eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, in 1841.
All royal babies were christened in the original gown up until the birth of Prince Edward’s son James, Viscount Severn, 17 when a replica replaced the original as it was deemed to frail to continue using.
Princess Eugenie and Jack are understood to have been based at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s UK home Frogmore Cottage in the lead up to their son’s arrival.
Whether or not the couple choose to stay on at Frogmore or return to their marital home in the grounds on Kensington Palace in the coming months remains to be seen.
The Windsor home is a practical base for the new parents as it is close to Eugenie’s family home The Royal Lodge.
Prince Andrew, 60, and Sarah Ferguson, 60, are based just down the road from Eugenie and are likely to be among the first royals to meet the new arrival.
