In a resurfaced video of an then-engaged Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank, the royal couple recalled crossing paths for the first time. The smitten pair opened up to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about what they thought about each other on ITV’s This Morning.
Mr Brooksbank said: “We were skiing at a friend’s place in Switzerland and I saw you first. And we just stared at each other.”
But the Queen’s granddaughter recalled a funny first impression regarding his hat.
She said: “And I thought, what a silly hat. And I thought, who’s that?
“And you came over and shook my hand, and I was all butterflies and nervous.”
The royal remembered telling her mother, Sarah Ferguson, about the special encounter.
Eugenie said: “I think I ran to my mom that night and was like, ‘I just met this guy Jack!’
“I remember being like, ‘I really, really like this guy and I really want him to like me too.’
“And then you gave me this huge windscreen-wiper wave and I was like, ‘Right he likes me.'”
The royal couple, who wed at St George’s Chapel in 2018, went on to describe each other with Mr Brooksbank labelling his then-fiancée “a bright, shining light.”
Eugenie said of her partner “he makes everyone feel so special”.
She added: “He’ll scoop you up and he’ll talk to you and he’ll make you feel a million dollars.
“That’s you and you’re so humble and generous, and just that person where you immediately know you’ve got a friend.”
The pair are expecting their first child in the coming weeks, according to media reports.
