Queen Letizia attended Spain’s Pascua Militar ceremony as her first appearance of 2021. Pascua Militar is a military parade that takes place every January 6 in the Royal Palace of Madrid. Letizia joined her husband King Felipe VI, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Minister of Defence Margarita Robles to preside over the event.
The Queen’s attire drew attention as she chose to go with a muted look.
She wore a long black skirt, a Carolina Herrera black Fur Collar Cape and a designer white blouse.
Hola! magazine dubbed it the royal’s “most sombre look to date at this event”.
They also claimed that the black theme was “most likely a sign of mourning for the people who died due to COVID-19”.

During 2020, Spain had to endure one of Europe’s strictest lockdowns as the country was severely hit by the virus.
With positive cases on the rise again, like most of the continent, regions have been stepping up restrictions.
However, the Spanish Government remains adamant it will not impose another lockdown.
Even the traditional Pascua Militar ceremony didn’t escape the impact.
All attendees also wore masks as the king reviewed the troops in the courtyard of the Royal Palace.
He and Letizia stood on a raised platform, watching parades of units as the national anthem played.
Afterwards, the couple and other public figures exited to the throne room of the Palace.
Both the Defence Minister and Felipe gave traditional speeches.
The king also rewarded some military officers.
