The idea of using Welsh gold was founded by the Queen’s mother, then Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, on her marriage to the Duke of York on April 26, 1923.

Princess Beatrice’s ring is a hand-crafted platinum and diamond ring made by her engagement ring designer Shaun Leane.

Mr Leane told Vogue: “I hadn’t worked with [Princess] Beatrice before, I worked alongside Princess Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi to create the ring.

“It was a real honour and working with Edoardo was a complete pleasure as he understood design and materials, and knew exactly the aesthetic Princess Beatrice would like.
