Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be “chipping away at the mystique of the monarchy”, Piers Morgan has warned. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s candid interview with US talk show legend Oprah Winfrey is already stirring up “concern” from the Queen. The ITV Good Morning Britain host waded into the debate over the couple’s right to speak out.
He told viewers: “It’s always been the concern of the Queen.
“The reason she doesn’t like members of the Royal Family playing the celebrity circus game or giving endless interviews is that it chips away at the mystique of the monarchy.
“She’s very acutely aware that in most of the rest of the world, monarchies have gone.
“It’s only here really that we continue to revere our monarchy because the Queen herself is just such an exemplary figurehead.”

Buckingham Palace has not officially commented on the Sussexes’ decision to speak to Oprah.
According to US television network, CBS, the interview will cover “everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure”.
In a statement announcing the talk, they wrote: “Winfrey will speak with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview.
“Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”
In the video, Oprah can be heard asking Meghan if she was “silent or silenced”.
She also claims that the couple has said some “pretty shocking things”.
The Duchess does not speak for the clip.
However, Harry does say: “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you, with my wife by my side.
“I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her, going through this process by herself, all those years ago because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.”
