The late Princess Diana is still revered by many, and none more than her family. Her niece Lady Amelia Spencer has now spoken out about her late aunt, and shared a sweet last memory of her. Princess Diana famously died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, leaving behind her two sons Princes William and Harry.

Her death sparked an intense period of public mourning, with many royal fans distraught at her untimely death.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine, Amelia said: “Sadly I was only five years old when she passed away but I know she touched a lot of people’s hearts and lives.

”The last time I saw her was when she came to live with us in Cape Town for a few months and I remember a beautiful and lasting memory from that time.

“We were all running and playing on Noordhoek Beach, a beautiful beach in Cape Town. We had such a great day there and I really enjoyed the time she spent with us.

Her funeral was attended by 2,000 people in Westminster Abbey with approximately 32million watching the televised service in the UK alone.

At the time of her death, she was the most photographed woman in the world, and a mainstay in worldwide press.

Her divorce from Prince Charles has been finalised the year before, and she was making headway in branching out from the royal brand and into her own charitable endeavours.

Her popularity has been credited for making the Royal Family more accessible to the public, something which both of her sons have continued since her death.

In her famous interview with BBC’s Panorama in 1995, she said, “I would like a monarchy that has more contact with its people.”
